Livestock interview judging is August 11 2026, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Hardin County Fairgrounds Community Building.
Judging is required for all 4-H member who want to show/exhibit at the Hardin County Fair. You need to sign up for ONE appointment per species. For example - if you are taking Market Rabbit and Breeding Rabbit projects, you will need ONE appointment with the Rabbit Judge. If you are taking Market Rabbit and Market Chickens, you will need TWO appointments - one with the rabbit judge and one with the poultry judge.

Pre-sale tickets for Farm Science Review are on sale now at the Ohio State University Extension office until Monday, September 21. Tickets are $10 each with cash or check only.
Starting September 22, tickets can be purchased online or at the event gates for $15.

The OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program will host the final meeting of their annual summer workshop series on Tuesday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Friendship Gardens, located at 960 W. Kohler St. in Kenton.
The topic for this workshop is all about companion planting which is "...a great way to use space efficiently in the garden, plant your vegetables and flowers in mutually beneficial arrangements,
and even protect your most prized plants from insects." (University of Minnesota Extension)

As of mid-Jun 2026, we have been experiencing an unusually large outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a gastrointestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. Cases have been reported across multiple states, with particularly high numbers in Ohio and neighboring Michigan. Health departments continue to search for the cause of the outbreak, but no specific food item or source has yet been identified.

Applications are now being accepted for 2026 rabbit royalty at the Hardin County Fair.
Royalty contestants must be taking 4-H projects 228BR Rabbit Breeding and/or 228MA Market Rabbits or the FFA equivalent and have their projects entered in this year's fair.

OSU Extension in Hardin County will be closed on Friday, July 3 for the observance of Independence Day.

If you own a pond or are looking to establish a pond, join Hardin Soil and Water Conservation District and Ohio State University Extension on July 14 at 6:30 p.m. for a free pond clinic.
The event will at Kenton High School, 751 Wildcat Way, in Kenton.
Remlinger Fish Farm and their pond experts will be on hand to answer any of your question and going over weed and algae control, fish stocking, and aerator setup.
