Ag Hall of Fame - To recognize and honor outstanding contributions to agriculture by Hardin County people. Click to print a nomination form.
- Tillage Club Meetings - A series of winter agronomy meetings held for Hardin and Logan County farmers and agribusiness dealers on current topics.
- Dairy Production Seminars - Educational seminars are held for dairy producers on topics of current issues.
- Livestock Mortality Composting - A certification program held in cooperation with Hardin Soil and Water Conservation District. Producers who attend this seminar can legally compost the dead animals from their operation. There will be a Mortality Composting certification program on Thursday, June 19 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Hardin Co. Extension meeting room, Courthouse, Kenton. Cost is $10 per person. Register by June 13 by calling 419-674-2297.
- Ag Council - A monthly meeting of producers, agribusiness, farm lenders, and other agencies who serve farmers. There is a sharing of upcoming events and current farm problems or issues.
- Pond Clinic - Semi annual program to educate farmers and homeowners about design and management of ponds for conservation, fishing and recreation. There will be a Pond Clinic on Thursday, June 12 from 6-7:00 p.m. at the Larry Phillips farm, 9080 TR 210, Kenton. William Lynch, OSU Aquatic Ecosystems Specialist, will talk about weed management, fish stocking, pond turnover, and fish kills. - Farm Consultations - This agent conducts numerous one-on-one consultations regarding confidential farm business decisions, farm facilities planning, and agronomic and livestock management.
- Twilight Tours - A series of early evening programs held on farms around the county during the month of June. They highlight new technology, equipment or practices being adopted by early innovators or other farm issues or current problems.
- Remote Rainfall Report - A program for gathering unofficial rainfall data by volunteers from reporters in every township during the growing season. This data is published monthly.
- Agronomy Research Plots - A variety of OSU agronomic research is done in Hardin County by Extension Agents and OSU State Specialists in cooperation with local grain producers.
- Fair Booth - A booth at the county fair to highlight some of the many Extension programs and Extension personnel working for Hardin County families.
- Agricultural and Pre-Harvest Outlook - OSU Extension economists come to the county to give their current assessment of market conditions for grains and livestock so producers and lenders can make wise decisions based on the latest information.
- Sheep Tour - An annual event where local sheep producers participate in a 2 or 3 day sheep management tour. Recent tours have traveled to several parts of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan.
- Farm Income Tax Update - An annual educational program helping farmers and tax consultants who prepare farm income tax returns keep up with the changing tax regulations.
- Tax Preparer's Workshop - A two-day regional workshop held by OSU Extension and Agents of the IRS for tax prepares and attorneys who need Continuing Education.
- Conservation Tillage Conference - A two-day conference held at Ohio Northern University, where farmers and agribusiness leaders can come to hear about the latest in new technology for growing crops.
- OSU Extension Teams - Gene serves on the OSU Dairy Team, the OSU Waste Team, and advisory committees for Agricultural Computers and Plant Pathology. He helps these groups determine staffing and programming needs in specific areas of OSU and Extension.
- Master Gardener Volunteer - A program where a trained volunteer comes into the Extension Office one day a week through the growing season to help homeowners with their yard and garden problems.
- Dairy Management & Planning - Gene is recognized by State and District Extension Specialists and Agents in other counties for his knowledge and expertise in dairy planning and management. As his area of specialization, he is occasionally asked to consult with dairy farmers in Hardin and other counties in northwest Ohio.
